Doing Business as…Artist Entrepreneurs

Learning the business of art in Broward County : an exhibition

DBA Show 2015

This year Virginia Fifield and Jacklyn Laflamme have curated “Retrospective: Seven Years of DBA” exhibition in collaboration with ArtServe. They are proud to exhibit 45 DBA artists in celebration of both Broward County’s 100th and Artserve’s 25th Anniversaries. The Opening Reception is June 11, 2015, 6 -8:30pm.

Seven years ago Jacklyn Laflamme, LeeAnna Yater, and Virginia Fifield founded “DBA: Doing Business as Artist… Entrepreneurs Exhibitions”. DBA has since exhibited over 60 South Florida’s rising artists, all graduates of the Artist as an Entrepreneur Institute. The DBA exhibitions give selected artists the opportunity to showcase their artwork, but more importantly it utilizes the business skills learned from the Artist as an Entrepreneur Institute program such as sponsorship, press releases, grant writing, networking, marketing, budgets, etc. Each annual exhibition has culminated with an educational forum with notable national arts business professionals such as @HeatherDarcyBhandari, @JackieBattenfield, @BrainardCary, @GigiRosenberg, and this year Neda Ulaby, national arts reporter of NPR on June 24, 6:00 – 8pm.

The AEI program has empowered us with the confidence that we can succeed as artists and that we can be both financially and artistically successful! We are grateful to the Broward County Board of County Commissioners, our sponsors, Bill Calderoni of MetLife, the Artist as Entrepreneurs Institute, the Broward Cultural Council, and the hard working people of the Broward Cultural Division who have always supported the AEI program and this exhibition.

We wish all the artists in this year’s exhibition every success and are looking forward to continuing these exhibitions in future years to come.
